Upgraded to telus fibre and my internet has become worse?

So in January I upgraded to telus fibre and they gave us a t3200m and ever since then it's been downhill when I stream videos or plays games the ping is horrible especially with 2.4ghz . 5ghz is godly and rarely ever lags however the signal is always so small and a lot of times I can't connect to my pc even tho my network adapter supports both. Before I upgraded everything was perfect it was the first time in a while that I was satisfied . Does it have anything to do with the placing of the modem because before it was placed downstairs near my room. However now it's place upstairs. Idk if it's good upstairs but from what i heard the signals are often small upstairs too Please help been thinking about downgrading for a while. We had someone check and move the modem closer but the wifi is still garbage
