Default Telus Wifi Hub and Google Home Mini speaker

I just got internet set up in our new home and they gave me the white Telus Wifi Hub and one booster. The 5GHz and 2.4GHz signals are joined to one SSID.

I tried to get the my Google Home Mini speaker connected via the Google Home app. I get through all the steps in the app (sees the speaker, gets an initial connection) but once I set the room, it says "Could not communicate with your Google Home mini".

Here's all the things I tried:
1) move it closer to the router
2) reset the speaker (button on the back)
3) unplug and reboot the router, speaker and phone
4) forget and reconnect to the router on my phone
5) enabled UPNP on the router
6) use original cable and plug for the speaker
7) ensured phone and app are up to date
? searched for but could not find IGMP settings
9) no VPN or proxy settings anywhere

I don't want to split the 5GHz and 2.4GHx signal if at all possible.

Does anyone have any other ideas?
